Should You Sell Your Home During the Holidays? You Might Be Surprised.
One of the questions I hear this time of year is:
"Should I take my house off the market for the holidays?"
Or, if someone is thinking about selling:
"Shouldn't I just wait until spring?"
Not necessarily.
Selling your home during the holidays can actually have some advantages—especially when you have the right strategy.
Holiday Buyers Tend to Be Serious
There may be fewer buyers looking at homes during the holiday season, but think about it this way:
Someone taking time away from holiday shopping, family gatherings, school events, and Christmas parties to tour your home probably isn't doing it just for fun.
Holiday buyers often have a reason they need or want to move. That can mean fewer casual shoppers and more serious prospects walking through your door.
Less Competition Can Help Your Home Stand Out
Spring typically brings more buyers—but it also brings more listings.
During the holiday season, there may be fewer homes competing for attention. If your property is priced correctly, marketed professionally, and presented beautifully, it has an opportunity to stand out.
Sometimes being one of fewer choices is better than being one of dozens.
Your Home Can Feel Extra Inviting
The holidays give sellers an opportunity to create something that's hard to reproduce during other times of the year: emotion.
A warm, beautifully presented home can help buyers imagine themselves living there.
Think tasteful holiday décor, warm lighting, a clean and welcoming kitchen, and just enough seasonal personality to make the home feel special.
The goal isn't to turn your house into Santa's workshop! 🎅🏼 Keep decorations simple enough that buyers can still see the home's space and features.
Online Marketing Doesn't Take a Holiday
Today's buyers aren't waiting for an open house sign to find their next home.
They're searching online, scrolling social media, watching videos, viewing property photos, and researching homes from their phones—whether they're sitting at home in Lemoore or relocating to Kings County from across the country.
That's why I believe strong marketing matters year-round.
Professional presentation, great photography, video, social media exposure, online marketing, and good old-fashioned agent networking don't suddenly stop working because there's a Christmas tree in the living room.
Kings County Has Buyers Moving Year-Round
Our local market is unique.
Between families moving within Hanford and Lemoore, people relocating for work, investors, first-time buyers, and military families moving in and out of the area because of NAS Lemoore, real estate doesn't simply shut down for November and December.
People still need homes.
So…Should YOU Sell During the Holidays?
That answer depends on your situation.
I don't believe every seller should automatically list their home simply because they can. I also don't believe every seller should wait until spring simply because that's what they've always heard.
We need to look at your property, your price range, your competition, current inventory, buyer demand, and most importantly—your goals.
If the numbers and timing make sense, the holidays could be a great time to make your move.
And if they don't? We'll make a plan for when they do.
